Preserving a Piece of Post Falls History
For generations, the Post Falls Water Tower has stood as one of our community's most recognizable landmarks. Constructed in the early 1900s, it faithfully served the city's water system for more than 70 years before being retired as modern infrastructure made it obsolete.
Today, while the tower no longer serves a functional purpose in our water system, it remains an important symbol of Post Falls' history, resilience, and growth. It represents the community's industrial roots, the families who built this town, and the generations who have called Post Falls home.
Engineering evaluations have confirmed that the tower remains structurally sound for its age, with no major flaws identified. However, preserving this historic landmark requires significant restoration, including removing vegetation, repairing structural components, sandblasting, and applying a protective coating to ensure it can stand proudly for decades to come.
Rather than allowing this iconic structure to disappear, the community has an opportunity to preserve it as a lasting landmark. Future possibilities include enhanced landscaping, seasonal lights, public gathering space, interpretive historical displays, public art, and even a viewing platform as part of future downtown improvements.
The Post Falls City Council has committed the estimated demolition costs as seed funding to launch a community preservation effort. The Historic Preservation Commission, local businesses, community organizations, and residents have already expressed strong support for saving the tower and celebrating its place in our city's story.
The Post Falls Rotary Club is proud to help lead this effort by raising funds through community donations, corporate sponsorships, city partnerships, and grant opportunities. Every contribution, large or small, brings us one step closer to preserving this treasured landmark for future generations.
